Activities To Do During Your In Home Newborn Photoshoot With A Toddler

Written By Jordan McCain

In my opinion as an experienced photographer of over 10 years and a mother of 4, your home is by far the best place to photograph such a special moment for your family (even with a toddler or multiple!) Toddlers can of course be little busy bees! I find it best to let them take the lead. Curating the session around the things they love to do, helps make this process more enjoyable, wholesome, and organic. Let’s check out some examples of activities that your family can do during your photoshoot with Jordy Marie Photography.

Activity 1

Your toddler loves to help you water the plants, let’s do it! I’ll be a fly on your wall and snap away. I’m happy to help you move plants, arrange the kitchen, and quietly direct from the sidelines. Check out these gorgeous examples of what you could get!

Activity 2

Grandpa built a bookshelf that you filled with all your childhood favorites and then some. Reading to your children is one of your favorite activities so let’s get some great shots so you can remember the simple things - forever.

activity 3

Couch snuggles with baby while your toddler plays with their favorite things. They may go back and forth from playing to hugs to wanting you to play. Don’t worry about the perfect pose and just enjoy this time together.

Activity 4

Let’s just play! Embrace the organic moments that ignite your little one’s imagination. What is their favorite toy? Favorite game to play with you? Let them take the lead. My newborn photoshoots do not come with a time limit so you have the flexibility to play, feed, take snack breaks, etc.

Activity 5

Finish the session outside with some fresh PNW air. Take a breath and think about all the fun we just had! Know that the sneak peeks will be up the same day as the session and you’ll receive your photos within 2 days to re-live all the great memories from REAL moments that were made.

Here are some more great ideas you might want to incorporate!

  • painting at the kitchen table

  • dancing to your favorite family songs

  • doing a puzzle together

  • bubble bath

  • indoor picnic

  • building forts in the livingroom

  • popcorn + movie time

  • yoga

  • baking

In the gentle embrace of your home, we get to tell a story filled with love, belly laughs, and the beautiful journey that parenthood is.

Yours in storytelling,

Jordan
